Jason’s ’62 Chrysler New Yorker Wagon

Pre Sixties Vintage Auto Supply: What type of vehicle do you have?
I have a 1962 Chrysler New Yorker Station Wagon.

Can you give us some history of your car or truck? Where did you find it? How long have you owned it?
I have owner this car since around 2004. I was searching for a Dodge, Plymouth, or Chrysler station wagon from the early 60’s, not having any luck. I would have taken a Mercury, or maybe an Olds or Pontiacbut I didn’t want a Ford or Chev. I wanted something different. Everyone told me good luck. I was looking locally in Canada and then the USbut everything was too far away or out of my price range.

One day at the Fall Barrie Swap Meet where we were vending, I was shooting the breeze with our neighbour vendor and told him what I was looking for. He said the guy on the next street over from where he lived in Beamsville, Ontario had a car I might be interested in. He knew the man’s namebut that was all. He wasn’t sure on the year or make of the carbut knew it was a Chrysler product wagon. So I came home after the swap meet, called information and got the guys phone number. I called him up, he told me about the car, which was perfect, so I asked what engine it had, he said 413! I was choked up. I asked him if it was for sale and he said he had too many projects on the go and would be happy to sell it. We negotiated a great pricebut he called me back the next day saying he had a buddy that always told him if he was going to sell that car, that he wanted first shot, so he had to call him first. I figured that was it – no way I as getting it. But about a week later he called to say his buddy didn’t want it, so it was mine. I brought it home, put a battery and some gas in it and took it up the road for a drive.

What work has been done? What work have you done?
Once I got the car home, I put it in the storage side of my shop. Life happened: kids, work, just stuff. About 4 years later, I told my wife that we were going to get that car out, go through it mechanically and drive it: no time for a resto, just drive it. So that’s what we did – drove it everywhere! Each year we fixed a few more things but after about 8 years, the engine was tired. So that winter, we pulled the engine and transmission to have both rebuilt, then added FITech fuel injection and Vintage Air. We have no intention of painting it as it’s only had one repaint since 1977. The interior is very nice with new carpet and headliner. We love it!

What’s a favourite memory with your car or truck?
We call her Mabel, drive it to the Good Guys show in Columbus Ohio every year. We have taken it on a 10 day trip to Tennessee went to the Shades of the Past show and spent time in Nashville. We have driven it out to the Chicago area. We take it on lots of 3-4 day trips to the Finger Lakes and other places. Those are all great memories and we plan to make many more.

Anything else you’d like the share?
The car is not and will not be for sale, people always say everything is for sale, no it’s not. Can’t be replaced

Hi! Great car! I live in Sweden and also have a ‘62 New Yorker, but a four door sedan, that I really enjoy. It still have the original paint, engine and automatic is still original, Chrysler had good quality back in the days!
